The site features the Main Depot building, constructed in 1830-31; the freight house, designed by E. Francis Baldwin and built in 1885; a replica of the first horse-drawn passenger rail car, the Pioneer; and a 1927 "I-5" Caboose. Housed in the freight house is a 40-foot HO-gauge model train layout showing the original thirteen miles of commercial rail track stretching from Baltimore to Ellicott Mills. The operating layout features an introductory video and light show. Living historians tell the story of the development of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, the nation's first common carrier railroad, and its impact on Ellicott City between 1827 and 1868.</text>

Also of note are the career drawings of regional architect Laurence Hall Fowler (1876-1971); murals by Mexican-born artist Miguel Covarrubias (1904-1957); and paintings by Frenchman Raoul Dufy (1877-1953). The collections of Evergreen afford a unique perspective regarding the evolution of American collecting taste and connoisseurship, from the country’s post-Civil War industrial revolution to the modern jet age. Upon closing his architectural office in 1945, these presentation renderings, elevations, floor plans, and other related materials were added to the Garrett Library. Representing a rare and nearly complete record of Fowler’s illustrious career, these plans, photographs, and documents now serve as a valuable resource for the study of Baltimore’s evolving cityscape over the first half of the 20th century. They also indicate the extent to which Fowler’s world-class collection of Renaissance to 19th-century architectural library informed his work.</text>
