Resource <a href="http://collections.digitalmaryland.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/mhfa">Woman's Land Army of America 1918-1923 Photograph & Correspondence Collection:</a> The Woman's Land Army of America 1918-1923 Collection focuses on the District of Columbia branch of the W. L. A. A. which sent young women to work on farms in Montgomery County, Maryland. These "farmerettes" as they were called did men's work for men's wages and by all accounts did it as well as the men. The tasks they tackled, some of which are depicted here, included gardening, dairying, poultry raising, ploughing, harvesting, handling work horses, and haying. Maps: This collection includes thirteen atlases and over 950 maps of Maryland and Montgomery County dating from the early 19th century to the present. These include area maps, topographical maps, maps of local jurisdictions, neighborhoods, and plat maps which detail the structures built in an area at various times. There is also a collection of Lusks Real Estate Directories and Atlases. Vertical Files: Files for each town in Montgomery County, public schools, Historic Houses, Crimes, Businesses, Mills, Clubs, Customs and Folklore, the Civil War and other subjects pertinent to Montgomery County. Files contain newspaper clippings, pamphlets, papers from the Maryland National Capitol Parks & Planning Commission and other ephemera. Visual Images: Over 5,000 8 x 10 photographs, 2,000 35 mm slides, 180 snapshots, plus glass plates, negatives, daguerreotypes, films and videos. These depict Montgomery County’s changing scene from before the Civil War until today. Resource <a href="http://jewishmuseummd.org/visiting/lloyd-street-synagogue/">Lloyd Street Synagogue:</a> The Lloyd Street Synagogue was built in 1845 by the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation by architect Robert Cary Long, Jr. It was the first synagogue erected in Maryland, and today it is the third-oldest standing synagogue in the U.S. The Synagogue was restored in 1963-65. Recent archaeological and architectural discoveries, including the original 1845 mikveh (ritual bath), are accessible to Museum visitors. B’nai Israel Synagogue: The B’nai Israel Synagogue is a beautiful example of Moorish Revival architecture. This ornate building was restored to its original glory, and today visitors can enjoy the magnificent hand-carved ark wall that adorns the sanctuary.
