Bowerman, had the foresight to start collecting books and articles about the local community. Washingtoniana houses an array of resources and materials from the late 18th century to the present, with a primary focus on the local city. In addition to the books, census, directories, newspapers and periodicals, postcards, real estate assessments, and maps, Washingtoniana also includes Prints & Photographs, the DC Community Archives, and the Peabody Room for Georgetown neighborhood history.</text>

The first maps to be digitized and added to Dig DC include real estate plats from 1874-1892. These privately produced maps show streets, building footprints and material information, square and lot numbers, and some land ownership information.
